Restrap Frame Bags Is It The Best

As bikepacking and bicycle touring become increasingly popular, the options for transportation have also expanded. From handlebar bags to saddlebags and top tube bags, there’s something for every preference and purpose.

Additionally, when it comes to frames, there are several models to choose from. These include full-frame panniers, partial frame panniers, and small baby frame panniers, among others.

Despite their simple appearance, manufacturing panniers that fit correctly can be a challenging task. There are various bike frame sizes and types to consider, ranging from thin steel frames to carbon fiber electric bikes with internal batteries.

In this article, we’ll be discussing a well-known brand in the cycling community – Restrap. Their panniers are of exceptional quality and functionality, making them an ideal choice for bikepacking.

Restrap frame bags, the best for bikepacking?

Restrap, a company based in Yorkshire, has been designing and manufacturing cycling equipment since 2010. The brand boasts an extensive range, including frame bags available in three sizes: 2.5 liters (S), 3.5 liters (M), and 4.5 liters (L). The larger bags are designed to fit the length of the top tube.

If you’re in need of a practical storage solution that doesn’t take up much space, Restrap’s “Small Frame Bag” is a great option. Despite its compact size, it’s still spacious enough to carry essential equipment while cycling.

Whether you’re going on a long-distance ride or commuting to work, a frame bag can be a game-changer. With Restrap’s range of sizes (on Amazon), you can choose the bag that best suits your needs. From carrying extra water bottles to essential tools, you’ll have everything you need within reach.

This pannier has a sturdy construction and surprisingly ample storage space considering its size. It offers the same stated volume as the largest handlebar bag I use, but with an easier-to-maximize layout. Thus, it’s spacious enough to accommodate all the parts I need for a long day on my bike.

The top tube straps are rubberized to provide more grip on the frame, though they tend to crush the gear cable. However, this doesn’t seem to affect the shifting. The small plastic clips on both straps for the downtube are easy to tighten, with small rubber loops to hold excess strap as it is routed. Although the straps are quite long, they are easy enough to adjust if needed.

Inside the bag, there are two small mesh pockets for internal organization on one side, with contrasting orange and gray colors that make it easier to see your belongings than if they were black.

While it would be helpful to have a loop and string to hang a set of keys, this is a minor detail. Also, I haven’t tested the bag on a full day of rain, but it has withstood the wettest excursions so far. Plus, there’s no issue with knee rubbing, which can be a problem with other frame bags.

For those who ride Triban (on Amazon), Decathlon released a very functional frame bag last year, which is 100% adapted to its bikes in collaboration with the brand La Virgule. In terms of finishing, it is very close to the quality offered by Restrap.
