The Ozone 500 Mountain Bike is gaining popularity recently, with many young cyclists seen riding this department store-bought bike on the streets. But despite the high visibility of the bike, it doesn’t have many reviews online. I don’t know the reason why this is the case, reviewers may not have had the opportunity to test it or simply did not find it worthy to review. So I decided to make this review about Ozone 500 Ultra Shock 26″ Bicycle.
A website had a post on the Ozone 500, but it was senseless. It used copied paragraphs unrelated to bikes and included pictures of the Ozone 500. It’s unclear why it exists.
The lack of online reviews of the Ozone 500 mountain bike motivated me to do one myself. I regularly review bikes, so I decided to include this one.
I purchased it from Walmart at a low price of less than $150. I did not have high expectations, but I will find out.
The Ozone 500 features a Shimano gear set, known for reliability. I hope other components of the bike, although low-priced, are also reliable. The seat is hard and not comfortable for long rides, however it can be easily replaced.
Table of Contents
The Steel Frame
Steel construction makes the Ozone 500 Ultra Shock 26″ durable but also heavy. The bike weighs 40 pounds, which discourages theft but may be too heavy for some bike enthusiasts including myself.
The frame design is decent, the dual suspension gives it a nice look, especially the rear suspension with its angular design. The color combination is pleasing.
When we look closely, we can see the uneven paint and poor frame welding. It seems that the manufacturer rushed the production of this bike and did not pay much attention to detail. But since it’s a department store bike, this quality is not unexpected.
Performance
The steel frame is heavy and bulky, making it hard to reach high speed. Maneuvering is difficult compared to other bikes at this price point. Bike responsiveness is lacking, but it still functions as a cheap bike.
The Ozone 500’s linear brake works well, thanks to Shimano. Tires are cheap, they function, and can last a while if you only ride on pavement.
The tires will not last long if you frequently ride on trails or do minimal off-roading. Replacing them is an option, but it may be worth considering purchasing a higher quality bike.
Index 21S derailleur with a Shimano 21-speed
Someone designs the 21-speed Index 21S derailleur of Shimano for the Ozone 500 bike. The bike operates smoothly and quietly as of now. It is uncertain how long it will continue doing so, but it appears it will be durable. The designer of this part of the bike did well.
Be cautious, as the smooth derailleur may not be consistent among all bikes. Others may have had different experiences with the same model.
The Dual Shock Suspension
Are the shock absorbers effective? They are partially effective. They perform some level of absorption but are not high-quality. They may look stylish, but they do not provide a lot of shock absorption. However, They provide some level of shock absorption.
Keep in mind, this bike is 40 pounds and cheaply made, so it’s not suitable for off-roading and jumping over rocks.
To Sum Up
What’s the final conclusion about the Ozone 500 Bicycle? Can it be recommended? If a teenager wants a bike for a birthday, this could be a good option as long as they only ride on pavement and not on off-road mountain biking trails.
Is this bike suitable for the average and novice consumer? It is a low-priced option which could be good for someone looking for casual fun or someone on a very tight budget.
If you have a bigger budget, consider buying a higher-quality bike.
